Process engineering is the study and application of natural laws and principles that allow people to transform raw materials and energy into products that are valuable to society on a large scale.

The areas of application of process engineering include the industries such as chemical, food, pharmaceuticals, paper, textile, as well as the areas of waste management, and metallurgy.

Based on the natural sciences, process engineering can be divided into the following areas:
• Chemical process engineering,
• Mechanical Process Engineering
• Thermal Process Engineering
• Bioprocess engineering

In process engineering systems, processes from different areas are usually combined.

Types of Process Engineering-

Chemical process engineering

Process Engineering|chemical process|redfibre Chemical process engineering deals with the conversion of substances through chemical reactions. Either individual substances are to be combined by synthesis or substances are to be split into their constituent parts. In this area of process engineering, chemistry is technically implemented.

Mechanical Process Engineering

Process Engineering|mechanical process|redfibre The separation or production of heterogeneous mixtures of substances and the crushing or joining of solids are tasks of mechanical process engineering.

Chemistry often supplies the required substances in a mixture with auxiliary materials that were required for production or with non-usable reaction products. If the required substance forms its phase, it can be separated mechanically from the substance mixture.

Thermal Process Engineering

Process Engineering|thermal_process|redfibre Thermal processes are required for the separation of homogeneous mixtures of substances. These include single or multiple distillations, rectification, extraction, absorption, and adsorption.

These processes are often carried out in packed columns. The separation of mixtures of substances with the help of membranes is also assigned to thermal process engineering.

Bioprocess engineering

Process Engineering|bioprocess process|redfibre Bioprocess engineering uses metabolic processes in microorganisms and plants to convert substances. The processes taking place are summarized under the term fermentation. Mainly the metabolism of yeast, bacteria, algae, and the effect of enzymes are used in bioprocess engineering.

Tasks of Process Engineering

Process engineering aims to develop methods for converting substances and formulate specifications for their technical implementation. This results in the following tasks for process engineering:

• Planning the processing step
• Selection or development of the required apparatus and machines
• Determination of the methods for energy supply solutions
• Determination of the required measurement, control, and regulation technology
• Precautions to avoid accidents
• Waste treatment
• Process optimization
• phase equilibrium
• continual evaluation
• sustainable engineering
• process performance
• process safety services
• current processes recheck
• innovations in process engineering conference
• process data analytics
• scheduling process networks
• product guides in process design

Pipetech has numerous senior process engineers at work who compile these processing steps based on the results of laboratory tests or the basis of existing experience from industry and trade. To transfer these results and experiences to large-scale plants, trials with pilot plants on a smaller scale are often necessary.

The individual conversions of substances take place in apparatuses and machines. Energy is required to drive machines as auxiliary energy for fittings, heating or cooling, and operating measurement, control, and regulation technology. Electric energy, hydraulic oil, compressed air, and heat transfer media such as steam, hot water, or cooling water are used.

Large amounts of energy are mainly stored in devices with high operating temperatures, pressure vessels, and steam boilers. If the process generates waste that contains dangerous substances, it must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

Process engineers at Pipetech come from a variety of backgrounds (chemicals, petrochemicals, oil & gas, etc.) This gives Pipetech the flexibility to intervene in various business sectors while seeking operational excellence by achieving the objectives and requirements of the projects and its clients.
